Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need dance experience to join?

Absolutely not. Most of our dancers start with zero experience.
Our Absolute Beginner Program is designed specifically for adults learning from scratch — no rhythm, flexibility, or background required.

How do I know which class level to choose?
We recommend starting with Absolute Beginner if you’ve never danced, it’s been many years, or you feel nervous. Returning dancers can begin with Beginner–Intermediate or Intermediate/Advanced.
If you’re unsure, email us and we’ll help you choose the perfect class.
What should I wear to my first class?
Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely.
See the Class Prep Guide below for style-by-style recommendations.
What shoes do I need?
  • Ballet: ballet slippers
  • Hip-Hop: clean sneakers (studio only)
  • Tap: tap shoes
  • Modern / African / Praise / Stretch: barefoot or socks
  • Jazz: jazz shoes or barefoot

If you’re brand new, any clean athletic shoes and comfy clothes are perfect for Day 1.

How early should I arrive?

Please arrive 10 minutes early to check in at the front desk, meet your instructor, and settle in.
Your first class always begins with a brief welcome so you feel comfortable.

How do I check in for class?

For your first class, check in at the front desk.

After that, you can check in directly through the SCD App when you arrive.

You may check in:

  • Through the SCD App
  • At the iPad kiosk in the main studio
  • At the front desk
What is the SCD App?

Are the classes adult-only?
Yes. We proudly serve adults only — from absolute beginners to seniors rediscovering movement later in life.
Am I too old to start dancing?

Never.

Our oldest student is in their 70s, and they shine.
Dance is for every age, every body, and every story.

I’m nervous. What if I can’t keep up?
We teach slowly, clearly, and compassionately.
You’ll never be rushed, judged, or left behind.
Most adults feel nervous at first — but after your first class, the fear disappears.
What if I miss a class?

Just cancel your booking through the app and rebook for another day.

We’re flexible — life happens.

Do you offer performance opportunities?
Yes! We offer seasonal showcases and community performances for dancers of all levels.
You’ll never be pressured, only invited.
Do I need special shoes right away?
No. Start with what you have. Upgrade later if you wish.
